Nissan Offers Discount on Ariya Electric Car in China

Nissan, the Japanese carmaker, has announced a limited-time discount on its highest-priced electric car in China, the Ariya.

The company reduced the initial price by 60,000 yuan (around 8,200 euros) for all models sold in China, in an attempt to boost demand.

This move follows other electric vehicle (EV) makers such as Tesla, Xpeng, and Toyota, who have also lowered their prices to increase sales in China.

Ariya EV Available in Four Versions

Nissan's Ariya is available in four different versions, and the discount applies to all models sold in China. The Ariya is Nissan's first pure EV that has been designed from the ground up, and it features an innovative design, advanced technology, and a long driving range.

Tesla, Xpeng, and Toyota Follow Suit

Tesla has recently reduced the price of its Model 3 and Model Y in China twice, in October 2022 and January 2023. The price cut has made the Model 3 cheaper than it was at its launch in January 2021.

Tesla's strategy of lowering prices has been instrumental in driving sales, and the company has now increased production at its Shanghai plant to meet the growing demand.

Similarly, Xpeng and Toyota have also lowered their EV prices to increase demand in China. Xpeng has cut the prices of almost all existing models, including the P7 sedan, which is now up to 36,000 yuan (4,910 euros) or 12.5 per cent cheaper than before.

Toyota, on the other hand, reduced the price of its electric SUV bZ4X in China by 30,000 yuan (4,105 euros), bringing the starting price down to 169,800 yuan, only four months after its initial sales launch.

Conclusion

Nissan's move to offer a discount on its Ariya electric car in China is in line with the pricing strategies of other EV makers, who have lowered prices to spur demand. As the competition among EV makers in China intensifies, the companies are exploring different ways to attract customers, and lowering prices has been the most effective method so far.

With China being the largest market for EVs globally, it's no surprise that carmakers are looking to capture a share of this rapidly growing market.
