KIA EV9 Specs: 336-mile range, 379 HP, 99.8kWh battery

Kia has unveiled the specifications for its upcoming full-size electric SUV, the EV9. With a focus on people carrying, the EV9 offers two battery options: a standard-range 76.1kWh battery or a long-range 99.8kWh battery. Customers can choose between a single-motor rear-wheel-drive system or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.

The long-range RWD variant boasts an impressive 336 miles of range, while the base model's long-range RWD takes 9.4 seconds to reach 60mph from a standstill. The standard range variant offers a minor motor upgrade, increasing horsepower from 200 to 215, and cutting the 0-60 time to 8.2 seconds. The highest performance trim, the dual-motor AWD system, produces 379 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, reaching 60mph in just 6 seconds.

Aside from its performance specifications, the EV9 features sustainable materials, including recycled plastics and plant-based materials like sugar cane, corn, and natural oils. The interior is designed with families in mind, featuring captain's chairs for all three rows and a focus on comfortable, spacious seating.

Kia plans to showcase the EV9 at the Seoul Auto Show and the New York Auto Show before launching the vehicle later this year. Pricing information will be revealed closer to launch, but many expect a competitive price point for this Korean family hauler.

Kia EV9: Sustainable Materials and Interior Design

With the release of the specifications for the upcoming Kia EV9, it is clear that Kia is targeting a specific market with this full-size electric SUV. Families looking for a people-carrying-focused experience will appreciate the spacious interior, which features two sets of captain's chairs and a set of rear captain's chairs that can pivot and swivel to face the window or even third-row occupants.

The EV9 is also designed with sustainability in mind, pioneering the use of more sustainable materials such as recycled plastics and plant-based materials like sugar cane, corn, and natural oils. This is part of Kia's larger effort to incorporate sustainable materials into all of its upcoming models.

The EV9 will be available in select markets later this year and will come with two battery options: a standard-range 76.1 kWh battery and a long-range 99.8 kWh battery. Customers can also choose from a single-motor rear-wheel-drive system or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.

With the long-range RWD system, the EV9 offers an impressive 336 miles of range, while the highest performance trim with the dual-motor AWD system can go from 0-60 in just 6 seconds. However, the base model's long-range RWD variant takes nearly 10 seconds (9.4 seconds) to reach 60mph from a standstill.

At just under 16.5 feet in length, the EV9 is roughly the same length as the Tesla Model X and just shy of the size of a Chevy Tahoe. However, at almost 5'10" tall, the EV9 is significantly shorter than the Tahoe while slightly taller than the Model X.

Kia is showing off the EV9 at the Seoul Auto Show in South Korea later this month, followed by an appearance at the New York Auto Show in early April. The Korean automaker has yet to reveal pricing information, but many expect a competitive price point for this family-friendly electric SUV.
